Here we are nearing the end of January. How are your New Years goals coming?
Often times when we reach this point, that fierce determination and hope we had a few weeks ago begins to fade. Add to that cold and dreary weather and It’s difficult to keep going. It’s difficult to maintain what you started.
This is the time when your mind and body are resisting your new path.
If your goal was to be consistent with your workouts, you may be finding it easier to just to stay home under a blanket or to sleep in.
If your goal was to change your eating to healthier choices, it may be about now that your mind is thinking it misses your comfort food. It would be much easier to revert back to old habits.
How many times in the past have you committed yourself to goals on January 1 and then scrapped them by the 31st? How does that feel?
How does it feel when you are right back where you started the next January. Is this really what you want for yourself?
I have said this before and I will say it again. You know those people that seem to always have it together? The ones that work out consistently, always eat healthy, and never seem to falter?
Don’t fool yourself. They don’t have a magic pill and they weren’t born with magical genes that make “healthy” easy for them.
They chose and CHOOSE every day to be a better version of themselves. They choose to do the things that they know will keep them healthy for the long term. They make the decision every morning that their quality of life is more important than what would be easier in the moment.
If this is all resonating with you, then prepare yourself. This is your dose of tough love.
This is the point where your true desire or lack of desire to change will show itself. If you give up on those things that you were so fired up about a few weeks ago, it is only by your choice. Don’t blame your circumstances or someone else. You do have a choice.
It may not look exactly like what you originally had in mind, but being successful at living a healthy life, both inside and out, is all about being willing to move with whatever that means in this moment …whatever is accessible to you. The choice is yours.
Eating crappy food and never moving your body is a choice. So is continuing to make strides towards a better you.
I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes: ”Failure is not falling. It’s not getting back up.”
Just keep getting back up. Make 2019 different.
