As the weather warms up and summer approaches, it’s that time of year when you want to slow life down and relax as often as you can—maybe you’re even thinking about planning a vacation to take a break from the hustle and bustle.

In our landlocked city of Nashville, distance makes it hard to take a casual trip to the beach. Fortunately, though, we have plenty of destinations nearby that are perfect for a day trip when you’re in need of a quick vacation. Check out a few of our favorite spots for a day or quick weekend getaway—all within just an hour or two of Nashville proper.

Chattanooga isn’t just a convenient halfway stopping point for a road trip to Atlanta—it’s a destination all its own. Between a family-friendly downtown area and the Tennessee Aquarium, it’s a great spot to keep the kids entertained. You’ll find plenty of food and local shopping inside the city, including countless antique malls that can occupy an old soul for hours. Rock Island State Park

Pack a picnic and take the two-hour drive east to Rock Island State Park. With trails to explore, multiple scenic overlooks of waterfalls, and even swimming and kayaking spots, you can easily spend a day or more inside the park without running out of options. It’s no secret that Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey calls Lynchburg home. If you’ve lived in Nashville for longer than a few years, but haven’t taken a trip to Lynchburg, why not now?
